FISHING :

The Little Pigeon River is one of Tennessee’s premier trout fishing streams, with opportunities to catch stocked rainbow trout as well as wild brook trout. Smallmouth bass inhabit the water as well. The river splits into three forks in the Sevierville, and the West Fork of the Pigeon River flows through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg before entering Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Fishing is allowed along most of the river, including the Pigeon Forge area. For information on how to obtain a non- resident fishing license, please visit https://www.tn.gov/twra/article/nonresident-fishing-licenses-j1 Fish of the Smokies
RAINBOW TROUT is the most sought after game fish within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Due to the mass stocking of this non-native species in the past, rainbow trout are found in all but a few of the streams of the Smokies. First time anglers to the Smokies should stop by a ranger station or visitor center to ask advice. Sporting goods stores in surrounding communities often house some of the Park’s most avid fishermen.

WHITE WATER RAFTING:

White water rafting is an amazing activity to partake in as a couple. Navigating the river, working together as a team – you’ll love how you’ll feel both emotionally and physically after taking on the rapids together. The Pigeon River is ranked #3 for white water rafting by the American Outdoor Association. We recommend the Upper Pigeon – a 5 mile course with class II, III, and IV rapids which takes about 2.5 hours to complete. Rafting should be reserved in advance and can be scheduled Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, Memorial Day through Labor Day. Check out Nantahala Outdoor Center to make your reservations. The French Broad River also has white water rafting experiences – both a 5 mile (3-4 hour) trip and a 9 mile (5-6 hour) trip. Trips include snacks or lunch – depending on which excursion you choose. You can raft seven days a week from March through October. Or if a calm water float sounds more up your alley, you can get a guided float or unguided float, a chance to experience the river just downstream from the rapids. These floats are available Memorial Day through Labor Day.
